So Jay-Z is really taking this #NewRules vibe seriously. With the whole speculation that HOV’s deal with Samsung regarding the 1 million advanced sales of ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ not counting, it seems like the Record Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.) have taken a “common sense update” and clarified that the digital sales will count.

According to the press release by R.I.A.A, the 30-day rule regarding certification applied to physical CDs that were returned and therefore could not be counted. However since the first million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail have been bought prior to the release date, a change in the rules has been made to consider these as part of the sales. The same rules will still apply for physical copies where certification will have to wait a period of 30 days before being made, but with this change in place Jay-Z seems on course to gain Platinum status for his 12th studio album.

Magna Carta Holy Grail available 4th July.
